I’m more than a little bit behind on updates here, but we’re getting into Omnifantasy drafting season! I wanted to shoot a quick note for those that have asked that we’ve rolled the site over and 2022 drafts are now available.
Some of you have asked about ways to improve the site, and while we still have stuff on our to-do list, we’ve unfortunately not made a ton of advancements this year. This is on me, because I didn’t calibrate well with the NFL schedule adding a week and what that would mean for Omni draft season. The first sport for Omni is typically the Champions League Round of 16 matches, which begin in a little more than a week, so we wanted to get this spun up as fast as possible, which meant limited time to implement those changes when I finally realized the NFL playoffs took us quite a bit later into January this year.
One thing to look forward to is some new sports to choose from! Formula One was a popular request after the success of the Drive to Survive series, and it’s been added to the site as an option when creating your league. I don’t know what will come of the USFL, but we’ve added that eight-team league as well. Because every drafter must have a pick from every sport, leagues with more than eight drafters won’t be able to add USFL.
The last addition for this year is the men’s World Cup, which will take place in Qatar in November and December. I always love World Cup years and it’s a perfect addition to any Omnifantasy league.
What we don’t yet have are league manager tools, which means you’ll have to create a new league to begin your 2022 draft, and the draft order will be randomized automatically by the system and will unfortunately be unchangeable once that randomization is complete. Please be careful to spell the Twitter addresses of your leaguemates correctly when you create the league — I got a lot of requests last year that a league had been formed but then someone couldn’t access it because of a typo in a Twitter handle. For more on how to create a new league, please review the instructions here. I do wish we could offer a super sleek user experience, but unfortunately that’s not where we’re at right now. On the bright side, 2021 leagues are fully updated, and we’ll continue to track all the results such that once you’ve done the little bit of legwork to set up your 2022 league, and then obviously draft, you can just sit back and follow along all year.
I’ll be back with more later this week, including closing out some of the goings-on from the rest of the 2021 Omnifantasy season and reviewing some of the analysis I wrote about in this Omnifantasy strategy tips and resources post from last year. I haven’t dug into much yet, but what I’ve looked at has led me to some fun conclusions for 2022 and beyond in a couple of sports.
If you run into any problems, feel free to DM me on Twitter @YardsPerGretch. I may not be able to get to each conversation individually, so keep an eye out for future emails where I’ll try to address any frequently asked questions.
Happy drafting!
